CBGB is a music club situated in Manhattan. Hilly Kristal founded it in order to open a trendy club where people could listen to country and blues music. That is why CBGB stands for Country, Bluegrass, and Blues. Only one year later, the club took an unexpected turn. Indeed, the founder got convinced to book a local rock band as a residency. Since then, the name changed to CBGB & OMFUG, with OMFUG standing for Other Music For Uplifting Gourmandizer, and became known for the punk rock performances you could see there.
