Hilly Kristal founded the CBGB & OMFUG club in 1973. As a lover of country and folk music, he wanted to create a place where you could listen to this trendy music at the time. But he got convinced by two locals to let them book concerts. And in 1974, the club booked local bands. That is when the club changed to punk rock performances: the kind of music it got famous for.
